ipod firmware update

I have tried to update my ipod touch 4g using itunes to update the firmware and everytime that i try to use the update it seems to get to the end of the dowmload then as it tries to install i get an error message saying that a problem was encountered and it timed out,
i have tried to download the update by it self and had the same problem where the download says it has timed out,
I have found this site http://www.ipodtouch4g.net/update-ipod-touch-4g-to-ios-version-4-3.html and downloaded the firware update to my pc and i was wondering if anybody knows if this update will be ok and if it will delete all the apps and music that i have got on my ipod when i update the firmware,

Before you carry out the upgrade go into iTunes, right click your device and choose Backup. Once the update is complete restore from backup, by right clicking your device again, to reload all of your items.
