i hate santander. I have an account with them and cant use the debit card with the account. Altho its good for saving money.... I just transfer money into it to pay the bills and use another bank account for general purchases...... one day i will get around to shifting the account away :)

Tbh, the rate they offer can't be touched. I know many would give up earlier than me, and on another day i probably would do too, but there's times when i get the head on me & am just determined to get these people to do their bloody job.

Called back & the guy was very apologetic as to why the first guy told me i didn't qualify. He was actually very helpful. Cancelled the ISA i applied for on Saturday based on the first guys comments. Cancelled an old ISA i hadn't funded & set up the 3.50% ISA.

What i did find funny is the guy that put me through to the guy who helped me out, signed off on the call to me by saying "Good Luck".

I'm thinking perhaps he's not long been a Santander employee & knows what the crack is!!

You'll need to call the switching team on 0845-bendoverandemptyyourbankaccount-phone number.

    Not quite.

0845 numbers are reserved for calls billed at the local rate.

If they are charging more then make a formal complaint to OFCOM.

It's all very well saying that but many phone providers will charge considerably more and Ofcom won't get involved.

It's frustrating to be charged at all when you have a tariff that include "normal" local calls at no extra charge.

I shall be following suit and closing all my accounts with Santander. I have had a number of accounts with
A&L and found their 24 hour service invaluable. My first run in with Santander was last Nov when I was without a cheque book for 6 weeks despite repeated requests. Now I am being hit my underfunding charges as I transferred all payments elsewhere, I have tried for 2 days through umpteen menus and different numbers, spoken to 4 different people only to fail their security. After holding for about 15 mins this morning to be put through yet another dept, I gave up. What has happened to customer serice?

Yeah i did find their CS pretty poor, with only 1 helpful person along this journey. Hopefully i wont need to make another call.

What i did find funny was being given the number for the switching team, i call it & then the woman asks me if i want the number for the switching team.

So i ask her whats the point when i called it & got her.

Oh, i'll put you through to them says she. Yes, thank you.

Pretty poor. If you're given a number for a dept, you expect to get that dept when you call that number, surely?!

My sister had £20,000 taken fraudulently from her account on the same day as Abbey credited the amount as a mortgage drawdown. Were we sceptical to suggest an "inside job" ? They were not amused, and took 6 months to re-credit.

She is now with Nat West and very happy (so far, touch wood, fingers crossed, lucky rabbit's foot, 4 leaf clover etc )

0845 calls are *not* billed at local rate - they are "lo-call" numbers, which is a completely different thing. They are not included in most "free calls" packages, either on landlines or on mobiles.

    See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/0870-say-no

    Quote:
    0845 'Lo-Call'. Can cost up to 7p/min

Don't confuse Lo-Call with local; numbers starting 0845 aren't cheap and again, unless you're on BT, aren't included in ‘free calls' packages. Sadly many small businesses actually pay to have these numbers, misled by old promises that they “look more professional and attract custom”, without realising that these days their customers have to pay more.

Quick Costs (daytime): BT 5p, Talk Talk 5p, Virgin 7p, Sky 6p

BT and companies who use 0845 numbers profit from the confusion of people who think they are only paying local rates for 0845 numbers.
