have seen these two compaq at pcworld but am in the process of pulling my hair out in choosing which one. They are both priced at £499.99.

Turion is better than Celeron by far, but more expensive. If your just using the laptop for what you described, then depending on the specs it might be better going for the celeron, as the cheaper price for a celeron processor might give better specs for other things - i.e. RAM or Hard drive space.
If you give a direct link to the two laptops for comparison (the ones you gave link to search results) It would be easier to help you. Please don't pm me asking to eat me because you are hungry.

The Turion Compaq at PC World is by far the best. I believe the Turion was AMD answer to the Pentium-M and was a very good answer. This laptop also has a seperate graphics card.0

hI. I had already almost made my mind up on which laptop to get the philips X56 (for which i initiated a post) but for very similar spec this Compaq seems very good. The thing I liked best about the philips was the small size and light weight but this one seems to be just a little bit heavier but with a bigger screen. As soon as I settle for something Ifind something else grr I am so confused
so can anyone please compare the two and give me your opinion which I highly value? Thanks

The Phillips will be faster as the Core2Duo will be faster than the AMD Turion which both run at 1.6ghz. The Compaq does have better integrated graphics but the Phillips has a better spec and smaller size than the Compaq. It also has better battery life according to the specifications you gave,0

The Compaq Turion is by far the better machine, but whether you need that sort of power if it's only going to be used for homework and surfing is up to you.
my personal choice would be the Packard Bell, its £100 cheaper and is sufficient for your needs.
Hope that helps you:beer:

In terms of processor power -no!!
In terms of battery life -no!
In terms of portability -no!
Also just realised that the Phillips has a faster processor too.
However the Compaq has a much larger screen so it would be better if you need to alot of written work so it probably is better in this regard.
However if you intend to travel with your notebook the Phillips is much better IMHO as lugging around 3kg is NOT much fun!!
Celeron M processor also have shorter battery life than the Pentium M or Core equivalents since they lack most of the power saving technology that the latter have. Cheaper notebooks also tend to have much smaller batteries too!!0 -

the compaq v6133 turion is normally £599.99, £200 more than packard but at the moment it is £100. Prefer to spent extra on something that will last long technology wiseProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

The Phillips is the better machine specifcations wise. The Turion is totally outclassed by the Core2Duo in both basic processing power and power comsumption..Only the integrated graphics are better on the Compaq!!
The desktop Core2Duo chips are known to outperform their Athlon X2 equivalents by a fair margin
