Hi not sure if anyone will be able to help but, I have a laptop which I was given for work 3 years ago, when I left that work place 2yrs ago I kept the laptop I haven't added anything but the other day a box came up that said:
The windows vista home premium product key you typed is invalid for activation
a) access your computer with reduced functionality
b) type a different product key
c) contact hewlett packard to resolve this problem
I am able to use the internet by clicking option a, but I can't access anything that was on my desktop or even the start menu.
Does this mean Windows has expired or is it a virus?
I don't have the original product key information.
Any help would be great

Have you checked the underside of your computer, there should be a windows sticker with the key code. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I am such a donut!! Thankyou it was on the underside of the laptop - I just immediately assumed it was a virus.
Thank you0 -
Mainly for the benefit of others:
You may find that if its from a manufacturer, you cannot activate it online however you should be able to do it by telephone. Also manufacturers have started putting the sticker under batteries after rafts of complaints that the numbers rub off Vista/Windows 7 stickers.0 -
Hammyman - THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! I couldn't find my number and assumed it had rubbed off - the tech guys told me the laptop would have to be wiped!! Read your post, looked under the battery and there it was, the laptop is now working again! YAY!!!! Thank you again, I am so pleased to have my laptop back.0
