I've been looking all over for insurance since i booked my test a few weeks ago and today i realise the insurance is high because im a first time driver, but i thought that being 25 would bring it down a little but the cheapest i could find was 2000 one off payment with admiral, i cant afford anywhere near that in one go so asked if i could pay monthly and they told me it would be 2700! does anyone have any ideas how i could get this down abit?

Did you add someone older as a named driver?
Try increasing the excess (but only if you can afford the excess should the worse happen).
Do Third Party only (means your car won't be covered though) so only do if you car was cheap.
Are you working? Change your job title.
Do a pass plus course if you haven't.
Once you find the cheapest quote, go through a cashback site and hopefully save yourself £25-£75 depending on what offers there are.
If your car is modified or has a big engine, get something smaller... a lot of hassle but anything more than 1.2 is probably making it expensive.0 -
Also where do you say the car is overnight eg driveway or garage,0

Don't change your job title to anything that does not reflect your job though. Make sure you are happy with the concequences of having a high excess or TPO cover - you might find an excess protection policy useful to have along side the high excess option.
Pass plus and adding an older relative as a named driver can help (e.g. parent) provided they have a clean history.0 -
just organised insurance for my 25 yr old son, a restaurant manager, who has just passed his test. 1.2, 07 Cleo, myself and my 20 year old daughter on the insurance - 1186 pounds including green flag breakdown cover. Car kept on the road.
Took a lot of finding so hope this helps.0 -
im still hovering around 2200-2300 mark atm going to phone a few companys later to see if i can get it down, thanks for the respones.0

so i realised the 2200-2300 quotes i had were one off payments so if i was to pay in full it would be 2700 geez how do they expect people to drive with these extortionary rates!0

What car is it your trying to insure, have you tried upping the excess to say £500 to bring the quote down0

I would stick at an affordable excess, remember as a young driver you are a high risk of an accident.0
