Best Credit Rating Report & Advice

Hi I was just wondering if anyone can recommend the best place to get a credit rating report - I am very much a novice when comes to this but wanted to check a few things and wanted to get a good understanding of everything financial in my life. This may be a stupid question but when I request a report should I do just one off reports, getting confused as why someone would pay a monthly subscription? Also a few years ago I got divorced as was taken off joint mortgage, and loans etc will anything related to my maiden name and married name show on report - how far back does the report cover - will it cover my student days when I had a graduate loan etc? And another silly question probably when you go over an agreed overdraft limit by about £5 for it then the next day be cleared does this affect your score etc?

Actually can anyone recommend any books or guides around managing your finances/explaining in simple terms about mortgages etc as before divorce I knew nothing and now I have my own mortgage and financial commitments often feel an idiot when go into bank, take out insurances or talk about pensions etc

Thanks in advance.
