Apprenticeship am I too old?

Hi I am currently doing a home study course in electrical engineering in hope that I get an apprenticeship with an engineering company such as National Grid. Thing is I am turning 30 this year so not sure if i am considered too old to be an apprentice compared to younger people who have just finished education.
I currently work in a call centre and hate the job so I'm looking to go into engineering which offers better earning potential.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks.

I shouldn't think so. Stirling Council are currently looking for an apprentice electrician. It says nothing about age:

You might not be too old but wages as an apprentice are very low sure as long as you can take the hit for a while then go for it!0

thanks. I realise the wage wont be much but im only earning minimum wage now so I have learned to survive on a low wage! I would rather that than go to University and build up big debts0

Apprenticeships are usually for 16-24 years old, so i think maybe you are a bit too old!

There is age discrimination legislation so an employer cannot disbar you on age alone. This does not mean to say that you won't get bumped for other reasons (;)).
If you get to interview then the fact you are so interested in electrical engineering to do a home course is bound to impress. Employers are interested in employees that will stay, you are an investment so nothing ventured, nothing gained.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do not adjust your mind, the world is at fault.

Also remember that there are a LOT of 16 to 24 year olds looking for work these days.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The usual criteria for an apprenticeship is 16-18, with 40% of companies/organizations increasing the age up to 24. I very much doubt a 30 year old would be eligible to do an apprenticeship.

Just apply for it,0

There is no upper age limit so you're certainly not too old.
