Comet, Sales of Goods act.

Hello, i bought a Panasonic plasma from Comet 21 months ago, it has recently stopped working the Standby light flashes red 14 times. I have tried emailing the customer services with no luck, and then sent a letter to them.
They phoned me to say that they want to have a look at it before deciding what course of action to take but I have to pay their service engineer. They are saying that because I have not proved that the item is faulty due to a product fault, that the sales of goods act does not cover this.
I can't see how a TV that has been mounted on the wall since the day i bought it can go wrong through as they quote it "wear and tear".
Could anyone advise what my next course of action should be.
Thanks

What they are saying is consistent with the law.
You could try Panasonic or get your own independent report.

Thanks for replying. I was thinking of getting a Panasonic Engineer to look at it for me, would i then send the bill to comet? They have said that if i do get a Panasonic engineer, they may still want to look at it themselves.0

You will have to pay for the report but if the fault is proven to be inherent within the terms of the SOGA then you should be entitled to reclaim this cost back from Comet.0
