Student Overdraft

I have recently joined barclays student account

from the advertise ment i will have a 1000 pound overdraft but i only have 200 i need the extra money now but i tried rasing the limit but they said that they had only sertain reasons for raising the limit can anyone help what are the valid reasons.

Barclays dont normally "give away" the £1000 initially. Normally your first loan payment (or other funding) must go in before they will consider giving you this. I believe £200 is what they provide everyone when they open the account.

The £1000 is the maximum they will allow, it is not guaranteed and is subject to status.

i have a barclays student account with £1,000 OD but started with £200.

they only increase your overdraft when you are very nearing the limit (like £170ish) and you say something like you need your car for uni and it needs it's mot. also, increasing it is discretionary. i have no problem upping mine each time but they always comment on how i have never gone over my agreed limit, have my wages going in very regularly and they also expect it to be reduced evry now and then through some sort of income other than student loan.
