Water coming out of TV aerial!!!!

Good Evening,

I came downstairs this morning and found a small pool of water on top of the tv where the freeview box sits. The tv aerial is connected to the freeview box.

I'm guessing there's a hole in the aerial cable coating somewhere which is allowing water to seep in and down the cable. What a pain!!

Has anyone had a similar a problem? Is it a case of replacing the cable? Any ideas how much this would cost on an average 2 bed semi?

Thanks for any info

  • It could be caused by water coming down the aerial as I have that problem and solved it but putting another coaxil cable into the equation so the water wasn't going near the TV through the aerial cable. When its wet I keep a towel wrapped round the bit where the aerial cable connects with the coaxil cable.

But the other problem you may have is over heating of the freeview box if its sitting on top of the TV, I've had that one before too :)
  • You'll have to replace the whole cable it's probably chaffed or split somewhere along it's length. I did away with my outside aerial attached to the chimney and put one in the loft. It works just as well and you don't need to go on the roof.

I had water coming down the aerial lead due to it not being sealed where it went through the wall.
Might be worth checking that first.

When re-running your cable, run it past the point where it comes into your house and then back up. Will stop water running down the cable into your house.

I was going to suggest the same as mparter, my friend has an outdoor light and they haddn't made a U in the cable outside so all the water was coming in.
One day I might be more organised...........

  • the cable will probably have had it's day, try (as a short term measure) cutting the coax at the bottom (outside the house) with a stanley knife, and use a drip loop.
    baldly going on...

Normally the aerial coming into the house normally leaves a slight overhang so that if water does run down it it cant run into the house as it would have to go up and defy gravity. They normaly do this with satelitte cables too.

It could very well be you aerial cable needs replacing, if watre is inside it could effect the picture quality. The palstic can crack/split in the sun and the rain can get inside.

I replaced my aerials last year and asked for new cabling
