I have a big problem saying no to people when it comes to money. If I am going on holiday people ask me to get them things that ends up costing me or to order for them online. I feel so awkward asking for the money or if they offer I say its ok. Recently I went on holiday recently people asked me to get them things like perfume etc ... how do I say no ?? or do you just ignore those requests . I was the fool to get them the things they asked for though
I tend to say 'I'll see what I can do' but not get anything unless someone has given me the money in advance. TBH no one has ever asked me for the bits & if they did I would just say 'Oh really sorry, I had my hands full...etc'.
It's YOUR holiday not their shopping trip. Be firm!LBM - 19/03/2011

I ordered it online from the supplier and it came to £425. She gave me £225 immediately and asked if she could repay the rest after christmas, which i agreed to even though i wasn't too happy about it, i thought she had the money upfront. I don't buy anything unless i know i can pay for it. We are soon going into April and i still havn't had this money back and i really don't know how to bring this subject up with her.I would be grateful for any advice!!I won't make this same mistake again0

As everyone else has said...get the money up front, say you're only taking enough money to cover yourself, so if they want something they'll have to make sure they give you the cash before you depart. If they don't stump up, you don't buy for them.0

OP, if people ask you to order stuff online, just tell them that your computer has a virus on it and you don't want to risk using your card on there. If they want it that bad, tell them that they are welcome to use their card details!
growlygrumps: Ask your "friend" if you can borrow the laptop. Then just hang onto it until she asks for it back. You can then raise the question of the £200 still owed for it and if she doesn't pay up, tell her that you are selling it to recoup your money."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

How about:
Luggage weight / carry on restrictions meant I could not get it onto the plane.
I did not get a chance to visit the duty free, I almost missed the flight due to traffic, security delays etc (be inventive)
Movement in exchange rates made what you wanted more expensive than I thought you would be willing to pay.
The duty free shop did not have the brand you wanted.:T
I had already promised someone else the perfume and to get a bottle for someone else would put me over the allowance limit.
I have just found out that selling on duty free goods to third parties is illegal (true):o~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do not adjust your mind, the world is at fault.0 -
OP - i am exactly the same as you - i can't say no too and have often been left out of pocket because i am too soft and fall for sob stories left, right and centre.
I the past (and even as recently as last week!) I have always judged people by my own good intentions and have learnt the hard way that not everyone is as trustworthy or as desparate to pay back what they owe as quickly as i would if i was in their position.
Nowadays i tend only to do favours for those who have been there for me when i have needed them and plan on following this ethos from now on.S.A.D and proud

So, OK, he might not be into anal sex.
Their friendship will probably be irreparably damaged by the incompletely repaid loan, so he might as well try to get some pleasure from it.0 -
