Huawei E160 and E160+ 3g usb modems on Windows 7?

I have 2 of these dongles and just discovered that the standard 10.1 Voda software cannot manage E160 modems apparently. I get a 619 error (or sometimes 628). Although this usually ought to mean the APN is wrong, in fact the same modems work fine on XP using the same APN.
Anyone got their E160s working on Win7?

Yes, using my O2 E160 with Windows 7 Premium 32 bit.
Perhaps you need to unlock the modem and update the firmware. Doesn't cost anything.
Are they Vodafone modems or are you just using their connection manager?0 -
One is an unlocked o2 that works fine for Voda using either Huawei's Mobile Connect or Voda connection Manager on XP
The other a Voda locked one that works fine on XP using Vodafone connection manager.
Nether work using either type of software on Win7.
There seem to be no official drivers available for E160/Win7 and all the Huawei download links on the forums are now dead.
What software did you use to get it working?0 -
I have two Huawei 160's running fine on Win 7 HP 32 and 64 bit, both ex O2 updated this generic Mobile partner firmware:
Download : E160_Dashboard_WIN_UTPS11.030.01.04.03.B409
http://www.dc-unlocker.com/downloads/open/33
And it's free.0 -
Thanks
I installed that software (Huawei Dashboard) and it detected and updated the stick. I assume this means, it updated the 'CD-ROM' part. Am not sure whether it was meant to unlock anything at the same time.
So I un- and re-installed the Mobile Partner software (via the stick's CD-ROM emulation) thinking this would be new then. Got an 720 error initially on trying to connect, then after a reboot get the 619 error again.
Question: Does the Dashboard software also have Win7 drivers etc?0 -
As I said above mine are working fine. So either you have got the APN or user name or password incorrect or you have other issues with your PC.0

Did you turn off UAC before installing the modem?
Otherwise, perhaps you can adapt this guide to your requirements to ensure that the latest drivers have been installed.
Personally I used the O2 software to install the Drivers and then stopped it from starting with Windows. That way I could use the Mobile Partner(StarHub) Dashboard(the same as in Inner Zone's post).
I did it that way because O2 E160s are not locked and their connection manager also allows you to add new profiles, so there was no need for me to change anything.
Also O2 has an update for Windows 7 even though the dongle worked perfectly without it.0
