gas and electric first time buyer.
hi, this is my first post so go easy on me
Ive recently purchased my first house, my questions are, how to i go about getting signed up to gas and electric? i believe that the previous owners used british gas for both, do i need to contact them first or can i start afresh with a new provider? and how do i go about getting the best deal as i have no previous bills to compare with?
hope thats not to much to ask
thanks in adavnce.

If the previous owners were with British Gas then you will be starting off with British Gas. By using the gas and electric you will enter a "deemed contract" with them.
You should contact BG, explain you've moved in and give them your details. Make sure you give them a start meter reading too. You can start the process of switching to another supplier straight away, but it takes time so you will need to be with British Gas for a while.
As for choosing a new supplier/tariff, the best you can do really is just use a price comparison website. Most of them allow you put in how many people live there, what kind of property, etc, and the site will estimate what your usage is going to be to work out the best tariff.
Make sure you follow the switching guide on this website to get the best deal (cashback or free wine, etc).0 -
