Hello
I want to use my Imac to watch DVD's on my Samsung (32") tv.
I have bought fairly cheaply aMini DVI to HDMI adapter (to connect to the Imac) and then using a HDMI to HDMI (to connect to the TV)
however when I change channel to HDMI I cant see what's playing on my mac.
I went as far as going to my Imac Display properties and I 'think' it knows that I connected a TV to it as I can see the 'mirror' function etc but nothing is happening
Can any help in simple terms please?
Thanks

nvm... looking on forums just now for answer:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0

I know nothing of Macs
however, does it have an extended desktop option?0 -
Try...
Click on the "Apple" icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select "System Preferences" from the Apple menu. Click on "Displays" when the system preferences window opens.
Select the resolution setting and colour profile for the television using the "Displays" and "Colour" tabs of the display preference pane.
Click "Arrangement" and choose either mirroring or extended desktop mode. Mirroring mode will display on the television what is shown on the iMac, while extended desktop mode provides an additional desktop area for the user.
Edit:
After doing some digging... I found this thread:
http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-desktops/232483-imac-27-tv-help.html
Cliff notes: it will depend on what imac you have.. pre 2009 imac's are input only (if I've understood right).

thanks ,
I did go to Display but I was not sure what resolution to select, although after trying a few video still didnt appear on my TV.
I also selected the Mirror option and it does show an additional screen (tv) but it doesnt show anything on the telly
It is a pre 2009 Imac (white plastic frame version) so maybe it is a non video output
thank a lot for your time looking into this for me0 -
just an update for anyone interested, choosing the mirroring setting works, I could not see it on the TV because we had the wrong setting on the TV> Dont know what it was as my hubby fiddled with it, not even sure he can do it again in the future lol
So even holder Imacs have the video output capability however they do not have output sound, only latest 2010 modela have (called Apple support for this) so I have to put the sound on the Imac to the Max which is ok as I dont like to watch telly too loud0 -
