Yesterday my laptop switched itself off and kept rebooting and switching off in a loop.
Thought at first it was a hardware problem, but used Dr web rescue disk.
The scan came up with 3 threats. I removed them, it did start for a minute or two and then resumed rebooting sequence, I guess the virus was still there and reinfected me. Also tried to repair with system disk but no joy.
Anyway I used backup disk I made, and its fine now.
Just wanted to know in case it happens again if there is something else I could have done?
Am running avira premium on windows 7.

Use malwarebytes as a secondary scanner
Use SANDBOXIE for net browsing
or do you mean if you were at the same stage you were?:idea:0 -

Yes, if it happens again, i would usually ask on here but i didn't have time yesterday.
I look after a few family computers but that one stumped me by not being able to even start in safemode.0 -
Good on you for trying a boot scanner. What were the 3 detections? And what were the filenames and location if you remember?
When you started back up post Dr Web scan, did you go into safe mode? Might have been an idea, and then run some in-system scans with MBAM.
I suppose you could have tried another boot scanner, such as Avira or F-Secure. Even GData have a scanner, which is based partly on Avast engine as well as Bitdefender (who also have one). I wouldn't rely on the results of just one, even though they can take quite a long time. I found VBA32 rescue cd to be quite sensitive, but it also gave a few false positives.
It may have been unrelated to malware of course, so you could have used the command line tools to run system restore.0 -
Thanks RussJK, i will make a note of those other bootscanners.
I cant remember the threats, i was in a rush and the dr web scanner took forever.
I did try avira but it wouldn't work. Was going to scan with malwarebytes but it switched off before i had chance, i think i should have started in safemode straight after Drweb.
I will look into the command prompt thing. I've not used command prompt for many things.0 -
you need to delete the viruses in dos not from inside windows. The viruses are removed as soon as windows starts again the virus will come back it hides. The best way is to delete outside windows or use backup like you did.0
