I have a friend that had to take a day off work so that Sky would could install there broadband. In the end they didn't turn up and the next day they weren't that worried when she called to complain.

Can she get compensation for them not turning up? I thought I had heard before that you can but cant find out anything

Do you mean Sky or BT? Sky don't need to do anything except activate the phone line.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Sky, they came and installed TV and needed to hook something up to the telephone pole but its in someone else's garden so they couldn't get access. Then arranged to come back after they got permission from the land owner and it was this appointment they didn't turn up for. They said its a 2 min job just to connect it. They didnt have a land line before this so its a new install.

Sky TV installers don't "hook up" things to the telephone pole, this would be illegal as its the property of BT and you'd need an Openreach engineer to carry out such work.

Sky engineers are really clued up, a relation of ours who knew nothing about broadband paid them to set up their broadband, the engineer arrived without the router they had been told he would be bringing with him, he then told them that anyway their brand new laptop was the wrong type to connect to the internet and walked out never to reappear.

After they managed to get a SKY router posted to them and a refund of the installation cost, it took two minutes to get the the wrong type of laptop up and running.:D

Just talking with her again, al calls were through sky but they as u say needed to go through BT who then get a 3rd party out to do it.

She said they called yesterday and did the job but she's still not happy with the way SKY treated her.

Sky don't normally offer compensation for loss of time or inconvenience but if your friend is still in the right to cancel period, she might be able to get some money off if she calls to disconnect because of the trouble she had.
