Is there a charity needs unwanted drugs?

I know of a charity which can use unwanted veterinary drugs- they send them overseas. Is there anything similar for human drugs? I have half a packet of malaria tablets (not worth much) but I really begrudge returning them to the pharmacy for safe disposal- what a waste-they are still in date to 2014!!

I asked at 2 local pharmacies (both part of chains) and they just said to take in and they would dispose of them. Can try GP as they have a pharmacy for their country patients. Seems a waste doesn't it?Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Hi Katiehound
Can you let me know the name of the charity that accepts veterinary drugs please? I have a bag of expensive medication still in my cupboard, most unopened and still in date, from before I lost my beautiful old spotty dog. For some reason I haven't been able to dispose of it yet, but if it can go to help some needy animals maybe it's time.If swimming is good for your figure, can someone please explain whales?0 -
Pleased to tell you that this charity would love veterinary drugs! They are used for the street dogs of Katmandu, Nepal. Spin offs are beneficial to the local people too, so it is a win win situation. Lots of info on their website

If you contact Chris( her UK details on the page link above) by phone or e-mail she will get back to you. She is able to offer refund all or part postage if required but as it is a small charity obviously if you donate the postage that would be great. Postage is only within the UK- drugs are taken out by people visiting so they get delivered and not lost in the overseas mail. if you can help that would be wonderful.

As a rule, unused human drugs have to be destroyed due to risk of tampering. Even sealed blister packs.0

Does anyone know of a charity who collects returned tablets and medicines from chemists? I seem to remember there is a charity who collects and redistributes unopened and indate drugs abroard, but just cant find any details by googling!
I asked at my local chemist today as I was returning some unused items if they did this and she said they didnt, and had to dispose of a large amount or useable drugs every week!
I said I would try and find out if anyone did this, and the pharmacist have even asked me to let them know if there is a charity who do this, as they would love to start doing it!!
Edit.. ive just found this from 2006, which doesnt look very hopeful, but maybe something else has been set up in the last 5 years..
