    Agencies/LL will do a credit check, so this could be a show stopper

    It might be possible, how long ago was the CCJ and what was the amount ? If you can persuade them it was a one-off and unavoidable and it was for a smallish amount then they might be more reasonable.
  • Look in the classified ads in your local newspaper, rather than going through a LA.

    A CCJ is seen quite dismally by many landlords. A CCJ is a last resort by a creditor, who has to spend a lot of time, money and effort to get one against their debtor after trying to negotiate repayments with the claimant.

    Some landlords will ask for an explanation about it and may be persuaded that it wasn't achieved through negligent behaviour.

    Otherwise, you can either expect to fail the screening, lose your admin fees with the agency and have the offer of a tenancy withdrawn or you will be requested to pay 6 months rent upfront or provide a guarantor.
