Laurel hedge advice - live near the sea

Hi folks,

really had my heart set on putting some laurels in the ground this spring but have just read they dont like coastal locations. Im about a mile from the sea so would this be far enough away?

If not could you recommend other nice hedging plants that i could plant instead

A mile inland don't worry at all, you can ignore the seaspray etc problem. Down here in Cornwall they just seem to grow anything they like provided they are not front line. Just a couple of houses back they grow all the normal stuff and it looks to do perfectly OK.

Might be different if you are on a fiercer coast I guess.

where abouts are you located (county)

if you are not too far away from me (hants / wilts border) then i would allow to (via prior arrangement) to come over and dig up what you want (laurel) so you can just suck it and see - if it works in your area or not (you only have a few weeks to do this though really) for a good transplant needs to be made now-ish
