Talk about frustration! I have checked and checked various
flight search engines for days now and none seem capable of quoting a decent price for a fortnightly trip June 1st-15th.
Most don't qoute anything at all, others either qoute more
than 2 stops with connections either in JFK or Orlando.
All we want - a disabled couple with walking difficulties - is
to fly from Edinburgh direct to New York (EWR) connect in
EWR to either Salt Lake City or Seattle.
The last mentioned cities are the only ones with flight connections to Idaho Falls.
Help!

If you are going to have to make two changes why not change at Heathrow and take BA direct to Seatle for connection to Idaho Falls? Often BA will have their promos that will get you a reasoably priced flight LHR - SEA in June and the internal Edinburgh - LHR flight may often be included free or at very little cost.
I would rather transit at LHR than any of the NY airports.0 -

I have perused BA's booking engine. They do not have
a partner for the SEA -IDA leg.
I'll certainly go in again and see - no pun intended - if I
can book a SEA-IDA flight independently.

I think you will find it difficult to fly direct from EDI to EWR as there is only Continental do this. Having just checked their website they have just quoted me $14000 for the trip with 3/4 stops en-route.
From what I have found out on the Idaho Falls Airport website there are only 2 airlines that fly there, Horizon Air (which I think is part of Alaskan) and Skywest Airlines (United / Delta / Continental Express).
The fare I have found is travelling on those dates and comes out at £577.70 each which includes taxes and fees. CLICK HERE Don't know how this compares to what you have been quoted. The flight is from LGW and then changing at Cincinatti and Salt Lake City. Yoiu can get a flight from EDI to LGW from either Easyjet (£81.96) or BA (£126.20)
Hope this helps**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -

It gives an insight to what I have already expierenced.
BA wanted £750 plus just to fly EDI-LHR-SEA, I would still have to pay some £150 on top of that for the SEA-IDA leg.
I think I might have to pay an extortionate £750 plus per person just to fly EDI-EWR-SLC-IDA.
Just imagine, I could get 2 weeks All Inclusive in the Domincan republic for that sort of money.
Thanks for helping out here Chalkie Bertie.

Looking at the IDA website I'd say your only choice is via SLC and then the Skywest Service using Delta Connection booking. As far as I can see you will need to transit in US to transit to SLC for connection to IDA. BA do not fly direct to SLC but via PHX (Phoenix). You can get flights via Newark from EDI TO SLC at £554 (inc taxes etc) with Continental, but the problem will be connecting the same day to IDA from SLC. An overnighter will probably be necessary in SLC. Return should be OK though if you do not mind an early start. Unfortunately there is a bit of a monopoly on flights SLC to IDA and it looks like $258 (approx £140) pp for return!! So total fare EDI to IDA should be c£700 pp, but you will probably need to factor in overnight stop in SLC
IDA looks like a small regional airport and the flights seems as if they are few and far between except to SLC unless you like the milk run!!!0 -
Slightly lower price for EDI SLC with Continental via EWR £1096.20 for two all inclusive.

That one looks promising Baz-Bee, the best so far, pity
they charge booking and postal fees, do these companies not get commission.?
Your efforts on my behalf have been beyond and above the call of duty...many, many thanks.

Yes, so check the flight with the airline directly AND find out if Continental have any UK partners and check the cost with them. On a couple of occasions I've received a better price going through the partner airline0 -
