Ex Local Authority Search

Looking to buy a house in the Hertfordshire area. Just wanting to do some research into the areas that my family are interested in. Does anyone know if the local councils have a publicly available record of which areas are ex local authority or still council owned? The estate agents seem reluctant to give us a straight answer when asked.
Thanks

Ask the council - or look on their rehousing website. The clues will be there in the list of properties they offer.
Generally if a half a street has recently had new rooves then it's probably council/housing association.0 -
In most cases you can tell by the house design.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Yep, agree, house design usually gives it away. I'm sure if the EAs are selling an ex local authority property they have to state it on the details. Thought that was a legal thing, but could be wrong... or maybe that requirement's changed over the years.

I've seen loads of ex council places on RM and very few state that fact. If it's an ex council estate they will all look very similar. Individual ex council less likely to.0 -
Round my part of Hertfordshire you can get ex-council houses that now fetch 700k+, that you would never dream were once owned by the council and not a single house in the road is still under council ownership.
You should be able to tell what an area is like from wandering around it different times of the day/ evening/weekend, rather than get hung up on who owned it 40 years ago.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
