Defining continuous service

Hi there, does anyone have any views on this scenario:

I have been working for my current employers for 12 years. Recently a new opportunity has come up within a different department of the same organisation but it comes with a fixed term contract for 2 years (I am currently on a permanent contract). Clearly, there are a number of factors to consider when taking such a move but my main question is whether, even though the nature of my contract is different, I would be considered to have been continuous employment for 14 years at the end of the fixed contract (12+2)?

Thanks for any advice or information!:)

As long as there isn't a break (a weekend is OK! *) between finishing in your current role and starting the new one, then your continuous employment runs from the start of your current job - so 14 years in another two years' time.

    * In fact I think a week (with one weekend) is OK but I need to check that.

Should be ok for continuity a internal transfer.

The trick is to never resign the existing position so there is no break of contract.

Research the company policy on fixed term contracts, might be worth putting an enhanced redundancy package in place as part of the deal if there is nothing in place allready.
