My key fob has had it, struggled to open the door after work this afternoon and i got home and the car wont lock, if i lock it with the key i then cannot start the engine as i cannot turn the immobiliser off.
I have a rover 214si, anyone know how much roughly this will cost to sort out??

Maybe a daft question but have you tried changing the batteries? This quite easy to do and, from memory, you just press the lock button on the remote repeatedly afterwards and it recodes itself back in to the car?
I have a Rover 414 and it worked for me this way and I'm sure it's described in the handbook if you have one.
It may also be possible to buy one from ebay or similar, but I may be wrong so perhaps check a Rover forum first as I understand there were 2 tytpes of locking system (infra-red & RF) used depending on the year.
NB are you sure you can't start it after unlocking with the key. Mine does (maybe faulty!) but you may only have so long to do it after opening the doors.0 -
Surely best to try a new battery first. Also dee here http://www.programyourkeys.com/Program_Car_Keys_-_Rover.html - how to reset the key if it needs to relearn the code.0

Yeah tried a new battery, tried 8 lol and still not working.
It is kind of working at the moment, i have to open the door with the key then press the fob really hard to demobilise it. Bit of a pain tbh.
However phoned up a rover broker today and they are doing me two brand new fobs for 50 so not as bad as i thought, he is coming to the house at 12, so im happy with thatWill not be a fat bride...

Do you have kids? do they like to press the remote button while the car is out of range? or might you have sat on the remote (constantly pressing it) at some point?
The Rover 214 was around the time of joint venture between Honda and Rover, they'd share the same electronics.... Honda remotes allow 200 presses before they de-sync with the cars CL/alarm/immobilizer.
You may need to reprogram the remote to the car (very simple and free).
The other thing that happens to all car remotes is as the battery runs out, people press the buttons harder (like that's gonna work, lol), this breaks the micro-switches inside and eventually leaves you locked out of your car...... Maybe the previous owner?
These are probably the same people who f*ck about with central heating thermostats instead of letting them do their job :rotfl:“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
