Moving gas meter for personal safety reasons

Our gas meter is at the back of our cupboard under the stairs, the cupboard goes along the length of the stairs, so is about 4 1/2 foot into the cupboard, so the stairs are about 1 foot above it. We have to lay on the floor to be able to read it. Because of the way the meter display lights up, we both have to get right in front of it with our glasses on otherwise it is unreadable!! The performance each time we need to get into it is almost funny (it is a prepayment meter). But it is getting less funny by the day, my husband will be 63 this year and I will be turning 50. Let alone this not being very dignified, it is getting physically harder each time we need to get to it. Surely we can get it moved for these reasons without it costing an arm and a leg to do so. We are on what even the government recognises as a low income. Please help.

contact your supplier and ask for a meter move, they will let you know if it can be done free of charge or not, if not maybe ask about changing to a credit meter?0

It is quite likely that your gas supplier will arrange for your meter asset manager to move the meter so that it is more accessible given that it is a card meter and that due to infirmity (!) you have difficulty accessing it. This could be done by moving the meter along and extending the inlet from the old position to the new position using copper tubing.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
