Transferring texts from phone to computer?

Hello :)

My phone is being very slow, and the battery seems to go very quickly (I have to charge it every day) and I think it is because of the amount of texts I have in my inbox (2245 messages). I am very reluctant to delete them, and so I was wondering if there was a way I could transfer the texts (and so free up the space on my phone) on to my laptop so I can keep them there.
I have no idea if this possible, or what I would need in order to do this, but any help would be appreciated. :)
My phone is a Nokia 6301 and has bluetooth, and I have a Sony Vaio laptop which also has bluetooth. I do not think that I have a USB cable for my phone, but I may have and will look for it if it is necessary.

Thank you.

Never put tables and chairs in the same room.
If they congregate together for any length of time, they will inevitably hatch plots against you and your pets.

Take a look at the free, Open Source program Wammu.

I've used it before with a Nokia and it could transfer contacts and texts, though you would need to check for compatibility with your specific model - though a quick scan suggests that it does, and that bluetooth is supported.

I'd be amazed if the amount of texts on a phone made a noticeable difference to battery life. Batteries just deteriorate over time - both from being used, and just from sitting around waiting to be used. Google some general advice about battery life (there are some useful apps out there like JuiceDefender which help extend it by reducing power consumption), and consider getting a new phone (you could probably get a new battery but it's not likely to be worth it).

PS In terms of backing up text etc, I use Android Manager Wifi (obviously no good to you though if it's not an Android phone...).

Thanks for asking this, and thanks to fwor for answering.
I have wanted to be able to transfer my text messages onto my pc for a long time but didn't realise there was a program to do it. Whenever I have changed my phone, I have had to send the messages I really wanted to keep, over to the new phone. This will be a lot better, the same for transferring my contacts.

    Great - thanks a lot.

Why don't you at least move them out of the inbox into an archive folder if you really want to keep them? Though why anyone would want to keep over 2000 texts as that can't be sorted or indexed is beyond me.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
