new look

hi i wonder if anyone can help
my daughter bought some loafers from new look last week (£25)and proceeded to wear them within an hour she had about 7 plasters on each foot (and before you ask yes they were the right size )and decided she could not wear them anymore
i took them back to another branch today explaining that they are unwearable
they refused to refund ,replace or give vouchers saying that there is no manufactures fault
i asked how did they know there was no fault !! and also that the shoes were not fit for purpose ,i.e to wear
still no joy apart from them saying take them back to the branch they were bought from

just looking for a bit of advice really should my daughter get a refund or similar or should we just accept the shoes are unwearable
i feel a bit sorry for her shes a student and works on a sunday in a little cafe and this was nearly all her job money

Unfortunately with shoes you often get what you pay for - now that's not to say that there are some cheap shoes that can be really comfy (I have a pair of £30 boots from NL, bought 2 years ago and I wear them constantly), or that some expensive shoes can rub.

As suggested above, shoes do sometimes need to be 'broken in' to mould to your feet, however some materials are more forgiving than others.

I would suggest calling Customer Services, or writing (recorded) to Head Office to make a complaint. Does your daughter still have the sores on her feet? If so, take some photos and send those too.

I'm not sure how this would stand up legall,y but it seems to me' fit for purpose' seems open to a lot of interperation. I wouldn't count on your daughter getting a refund, but a bit of persistance can often pay off in these cases.

Being offered a gift voucher would be better than nothing - at least she'd still have the money to spend on something else.

A lot of New look shoes are PU or PU lined instead of leather lined.
PU linings mean that the natural moisture our feet generate has no where to go this can cause slippage in wearing and rub causing multiple blisters.

I suggest she tries wearing them with thick socks around the house for a few days,or buys some of the shoe liner socks (nude coloued cover sole and half way up sides of foot).

Not saying she has sweaty feet but if they are a neat fit this will cause blisters on the contact points, stretching them a bit with thick socks will help.

Sadly a lot of NL shoes are cheaply made on poor lasts and are not very comfortable,I have some from NL that are ok, but have thrown out several pairs of pumps from them after a single wearing.

Bottom line you get what you pay for, leather lined and leather uppers everytime,NL is not a comfort footwear manufacturer they specialise in look a like disposable fashion.

They are not faulty though in a legal sense sorry. :(

I hate walking into shoe shops these days. The smell of polyeurethane takes your breath away.

Nobody makes reasonably priced leather shoes any more. Even good old M&S make more plastic shoes than leather. They rub my feet raw.

I do sympathise with your daughter, but must say that if I returned every new pair of shoes that ever gave mt blisters I would be barefoot. i always carry plasters when I wear new shoes and never go without socks or tights until I am sure they are comfy. Price and material never seems to make any difference to me.

Clarks are the same. It's getting harder to find good quality, reasonably priced leather shoes.
  • I brought a very high pair from NL and I can't walk in them because they are so uncomfortable to walk in, in the shop, trying them on was fine, but it seems like wearing them on a night out it the most painful and uncomfortable experience. I think it was bad customer service that they refused to help you at all. I do agree that she should try stretch them with thick socks, that will of course make them less tight on high feet, and get her used to walking round in them... If she doesn't want to wear them, be persistent and hopefully you'll get the equivalent of some money back - even if it is just vouchers.
  • thanks everyone i will get her to give them another go (with socks ect )this may make them too big and yes lp phillip sounds like the same pair of brown loafers -so maybe it is a manufacturers fault
