Unable to connect to Wireless Router

Problem connecting my dell laptop to the router.
I get the message saying that the signal strength is good or very good, but no connectivity. When I click the ‘repair’ button, its hits me with an error message of unable to renew your ip address (or something similar).
Had the laptop over at my dads and it managed to connect to his network with no problems. I can only assume its a problem with my router. Not sure if it will make a difference but i also have a main pc which the router is linked to.

Start by turning all your equipment off (laptop+router), wait 30 seconds, and then on again (router first). If that doesn't work, you could try turning the router off for half an hour - that can reset your broadband connection and sometimes helps (though in cases where it would help, any wired devices would lack internet too).
Those will usually work, otherwise you're looking at things like reinstalling drivers. Of course, it doesn't hurt to be sure that no-one's messed with the router settings, if it's a household where that might happen.
PS You could try briefly turning your software firewall off, if you have a separate one installed, to see if it helps; it's probably not the issue here but it's always a candidate with network issues.0
