Been offered job....

I too had an promotional opportunity to go out earlier this year and I opted against it. It was a tough call but the timing wasn't right and I was unfamiliar with territory. Had it of been USA instead of Dubai, then I'd be on the first flight over.
Fortunately for me, I am married. Having a partner makes it easier......or worse....hmmmm.
26 and single - go for it. Opportunities like these are rare and when they come you have take them.0 -
Go for it, If you hesitate then you won't do it, Best of luck and congrats on the job offer0

Have you been to Dubai? This has to be your starting point.
The weather in the summer months is not nice, 40 degrees plus.
No-one walks anywhere in Dubai, the roads don't have pavements.
Traffic is appalling.
Their poor treatment of their Indian construction workers beggars belief.
There are no bars, alcohol only obtainable in hotels.
On the other hand it is an amazing place.
I have a relative working in Dubai and he earns huge money and this can skew the social life, free spending is not necessarily a good thing.
Visit first then decide.0 -
I'd be tempted but I know it's a very difficult decision. I had 3 weeks working in Doha a couple of years back and had various short term assignments worldwide. It was boiling though everywhere had good air con. I expect the expat community is more developed in Dubai. Would that lifestyle suit you? Personally, I found it quite claustrophobic and incestuous but there again I'm not the most sociable of people. Under the surface I found it to be a bit unhealthy. My thoughts on leaving many places were great, I've worked here and experienced it but the thought of having to do a posting for a year or two used to fill me with dread unless it was somewhere like New York. The above post mentions cars and I found this odd. The first night I went for a walk but there was nowhere to walk. Literally. I hit a road and couldn't go anywhere. No pavement.
But you're only 26 so maybe you've little to lose and much to gain.0 -
Thanks all -
I haven't been before, no, but may visit in the summer possibly to see the school/area. But then again, I had never been to New York and worked there too! I like to jump in
A comfort spender, I could possibly be classed as, but within my means. I keep a strict budget which is all noted in a spreadsheet so I know where every penny is and where it's going. So, if I spent my monthly 'treat' money on the first day of the month, that would be it - no more. So I guess comfort in a way, but strict. I have savings here, and I'd like to save more being away.
As I've mentioned before, I don't have a big 'group' of friends really. So perhaps lots of people in the same boat and all being close friends would be ideal for me.
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
It sounds as though you would be getting a great deal salary wise - plus better weather and job security for two years.
If you lived within your means (and from the sound of it you keep an excellent rein on your spending) you might be able to save enough to think about buying a home in a couple of years. If it were me I'd already be packed and writing new lesson plans0
