USB Flash Drive

Wonder if someone can help?

How do you move a saved document from Word onto a flash disk or can you do this, working on a project and don't want to lose any of my work if my computer decides to not play nicely, lol.

Right click the Word doc file and select 'copy,' browse to the folder you want on your flash drive, right click and select 'paste' is one way of doing it.

Thanks for the info, It's been a long time since I've used a flash drive or word for doing projects. Just to be clear I create a file first so that I can copy my document to this file?

Should have been create a folder in flash drive to copy my word document to!

Not clear what you mean, create the word document on the c drive, work on it, then backup by copying to the flash drive would be my advice.

Always click on safely remove hardware near the clock, before pulling out the flash drive

Yep. Start a new doc, as soon as you have typed the first few words, click 'save as' and name it. It will save to your default folder (usually 'Documents'). Then go into that folder when you have finished the document and do the right-click/copy/paste routine to give you 2 identical copies saved in 2 locations.

Or set up Word to auto-back-up as you type as per the link I posted.

When using Word, I always copy documents using Windows explorer. I never use file>save as - it's too easy to screw up.

Save your word file (fred.doc) In Windows Explorer drag and drop fred.doc from my documents to the USB flash drive [1]. A copy of fred.doc is now on the USB drive.

Also have a look here which in turn points to the excellent http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm mentioned above

[1] The default for this drag and drop is copy as it's between different drives.
