New law coming in for tv warranty

Please can anyone help. We need to get a new plasma tv after old one dying. My mum was told by a friend that if new televisons are over a certain amount of money they now come with longer warranties.

Buy from John Lewis and get a five year warranty included.

Op, whoever told you is probably misunderstanding the sale of goods act, and expected durability for price.
I.e, a £50 tv that fails after 6 months is probably not expected to last any longer.
A £5000 tv should be expected to last at LEAST a year.0
