Possible ID Fraud

Hi All,
I have probably posted this in the wrong place, apologies and please move to suitable board. Thanks x
Yesterday morning I had the police at my door, ready to arrest me as they thought I was someone else. I had to show my photographic ID to them to confirm I was who I am and not this other girl. was asked loads of questions about how long I had stayed at my address and if someone with the name Pauline had ever stayed there. I told them that no has ever stayed in this house with that name and I was 100% sure coz it has been my family home for over 20 years. whilst 1 of the officers was talking to me the other was on the radio doing a person check on me and when he had finished he said to his partner that my name was 'one of the names'. they then pulled a photograph from an envelope and confirmed that there was 'real resemblance'(sp). I was then asked if i had ever had trouble getting credit or hp etc...which I have been but always assumed that it was because of a few things which I was responsible for. The officers then told me that they suggest I get i touch with CAB for advice and info on ID fraud.
My question is...If I go to the police staion and ask them what this is all about..do they have to tell me??......I dont mean tell me everything this person has meant to have done but surely if they know she has used my name for something they should tell me what....
Im sorry for the long winded and hope its not to confusing when you read it. hope someone can point me in the right direction of what I can do or what questions to ask.
Thanks in advance for any help with this..:D

Its probably best you go online to experian and the likes and get a copy of your credit report.
We did so a while ago and found that someone had been using an old credit card of ours (which was supposed to be closed). We dealt with the banks and a few months later we were contacted by the police as they had found the statements in someones house. The police have told us quite a bit about the case and have found another 10 cases or so from the info we gave them.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Sit down have a cuppa, have you got a credit chck done to see if theres stuff on there you dont recognise, not entirely sure on the police thing but yes why not politely ask them0

I have checked my credit report on Experian and there is nothing on it that shouldnt be there so im wondering if this person has actually not done anything along they lines and has used my name, address and DOB when she has been arrested, if she had warrants or fines in her own name and not wanting to be caught....
Do different credit report agencys show different stuff on reports?...would it be worth my while checking mine on another one eg equifax etc?
my brain is frazzled with this trying to work out who she is, is it someone I know, and what the heck has she used my details for!?
going to go to police station tomorrow morning and ask if they can tell me anything and put my mind at rest.
Thanks for your input guys/gals :beer:0
