Reversing during driving test, or any other time

Exactly!!!!!
It's ridiculous isn't it?maninthestreet wrote: »Really? I haven't noticed this.
Modern cars have smaller windows all round... More metal = higher crash safety ratings.
My first car was an Austin Metro, easy to see why it was so popular with driving instructors.... The visibility was fantastic! You could literally see the numberplates of cars when reverse parking, these days your lucky if you can see the windscreen!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Really?..........0 -
^^ In a round about way, I believe (from what I was caught) the you must always be facing your direction of travel..... But this could be just about anywhere in the highway code and I have a bad case of CBA
I can't see it ever being enforced as an offence (driving without due care and attention, maybe?).
As I mentioned, it's flawed when it comes to vans etc.... But then you don't have to drive a van on your driving test.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Complete rubbish!"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Vans have huge chunks of reflective glass fitted to each door.;)0

It would stand to reason that in order to see the bonnet of the car behind, your rear window must be the same height or lower.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Ok, devils advocate hat on;
Is there a separate test for a van driver?, or a disabled driver?
Nothing ulterior here, just need clarification, but not for a minute do I think you need to be looking in the direction in which you are travelling, otherwise no van/bus/hgv/loaded cars/caravans would be legal????
Any more takers?;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

No exactly, this is why I have a gripe with the whole thing..... I for one have to use my mirrors, looking through the rear window is totally pointless.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Slightly different question...
What's to stop you taking your test in a car with reversing sensors, or even better (for the driver anyay), a reversing camera like the Toyota Prius can have. That also has an intelligent Parking Assistant, which will turn the steering wheel for you if you have to parallel park. Nothing but a gimmick in my opinion, but the camera is great. I know on my Mondeo the rear window is so high up that most things likely to be hit when reversing (car bonnets, standard height walls, bollards, children etc.) become invisible once they're closer than a few meters away.
This, combined with the stupid stubby environmentally friendly mirrors which are about 2 inches narrower than usual, with the missing space crammed into a distorted and unusable blind spot eliminator zone, I usually just end up winding down the window and sticking my head out for the last meter or so.0
