2 and a half years in and I am finally under 20k!

I just logged into my CCCS account and realised my debt has dropped below £20k! I have never looked back since joining here and the CCCS in December 2008 and I can't want for my debt free day.
I live within my means and cringe every time I hear about my friends getting into the same situation. I can honestly say although it was a struggle in the beginning I am much better off both financially and emotionally.
It really was the best thing I ever did for myself.
Thanks to everyone for all the amazing support and the confidence to gain back ppi and tell my new hubbie about my debt. Can't believe it was that long ago!
Keep going, here's to the future!

Hi
Well done! I've just dropped below the £20,000 milestone too - down from £52,000 four years ago- and while there are days when it still seems a long way to go, you're right to be positive. I, too, have learned to live within my means (I can't access any credit and more importantly I can't imagine EVER wanting to again). It feels great to know that whatever I spend is money in the bank is mine and until the money's there I can't buy it.
I wish I had never got into such debt but at least I'm working my way out of it and I've learned a lot of great lessons on the way.0 -
aww well done everyone - after coming on here today I plucked up the courage to look at my experian and equifax reports gulp. There was nothing I didn't expect, have 2 defaults pretty much straight away from 2008 but it wasn't as scary as I expected.
MBNA have even marked everything paid even though I am on a payment plan.
This was the final hurdle in the facing up stage and I finally did it.
Totally with you getontrack, never want credit ever ever again!

You're a lot more than half way really. As with mortgages, the smaller the debt gets the less the interest burden is, which leaves more to pay off the capital, speeding up the process.0

Wow - congratulations!! That is impressive. It's going to be quite a few more months before I manage to join you, but it is good to hear of success stories - keeps me going :-)
My attitude to money has really changed since waking up and smelling the coffee - a hard lesson well learnt. Sometimes I get down thinking about how much more there is to go, but then I think how if I'd carried on, the debt might have just kept going up and up!!
Good luck with clearing the rest of it - that will be one big celebration!!!Total Debt: 2010 May £28,038.

Thats an amazing amount of money in 2 years!! You'll be debt free before you know it. Fantastic achievement! When is the DMP due to finish? That'll be a celebration and a half.

Thanks for all the kind words.
I have a debt free date of September 2014, still got a long way to go but it's going to be worth it!
Looking forward to planning for a mini-me when we are in a better position, I wish I had never gotten into this mess but at least I am doing my best to get out of it.
Makes me cringe when I think of the day I told my new hubbie after 2 months of being married just how bad it was, he was so angry but we got through together and now we are stronger than ever.
It is so true that there isn't a debt that cannot be fixed xLBM: 09/12/2008
