Lloydstsb joint account

We have a Lloydtsb joint account and I would like to remove my partner from this account. Can I do this by phone or would they require something in writing from both parties.

I hasten to add there is no issue here other than we are changing our banking around.

Probably best if you both go into branch together...see condition 12.1[h]

If you do anything on your own and they're 'spooked' they may invoke condition 12.1

I agree both of you need to sign the form authorising the bank to remove one party from the account.
This can only be done if the account is in credit.
  • I tried this with HSBC and they wouldn't remove a name - had to close the account and reopen a new one.

The reasoning behind, is that the person was linked with that account, therefore, may still get access - that's what they told me - surely by them saying that, then they are saying that their own procedures and safeguards don't work!

However, this was offshore banking, may be different for onshore ie UK.

No, exactly the same with some UK banks. Yorkshire Bank wouldn't convert a joint account into a sole account for me, despite it starting out a sole account.

Another thing that crossed my mind there is dd set up in my partners name for an mbna payment. If they agreed for the account to be made back into a sole account and the dd payment was due shortly would be get declined or would it just go through. Not sure if they go by the name and account as well.

I think it would be best to call MBNA and change the source account well before the current account was converted, and then check both accounts (old and new) before proceding.

MBNA say they need 5-7 (can't remember exactly) days notice, but better to be safe than sorry...especially if there's a 0% promotion on the account!

I phoned Lloydstsb and said it would not make any difference and the dd would still go through. Also it it due to be taken on 30.3 so no doubt in system now.

They also said dd would be account specific and would not go by the name etc.

Why not open a new single account and leave the old one open with cash in until you are sure that all the little odd payments etc are on the new account, imminent standing orders, end of month salary and so on. As each payment is made put the instruction onto the new account. Then you don't have to panic if it takes more time than you anticipate
