Someone advise me on a B.Band/Phone provider?

I have looked at Virgin, however, they want a £40 one off charge which i can't do, plus direct debit which i heard about them taking too much from people which i refuse to do, also they state that a paper bill will cost £5 per bill extra and so on - this was a no chance.

Looked at BT just now, they have a free £20 phone if you rent a new line, seemed a bargain so i continued with sign up and it came to the final pricing and they had stuck a extra £30 on top, so i cancelled it.

Is there a provider who don't have charges upon charges, a charge for this, a charge for that, and a charge for the privilege of renting a line and a one off charge? I just want a basic phone line, maybe with broadband, so far it costs more than a gas/electric bill and that is not good enough for me.
Owed out = lots.

You're shooting yourself in the foot by refusing both DD and paperless billing, which invariably are required for the cheapest deals.
With DD, you have the DD guarantee scheme in the event of anything going wrong. And since you are are on here, you also have access to paperless billing, so what's the problem
Broadband is exchange-specific. Go to https://www.samknows.com. and do an exchange search for your LLU providers, these will be the best deals on your exchange.
If you don't already have an active line, all providers will require a one-off fee for reconnecting you, starting at about £80.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Well we would all like something for nothing, the reality is alas, somewhat different.

It's only too expensive if you refuse to use the options that avoid the extra charges you refer to.

Like macman says are there any LLU suppliers at your exchange?
If Sky LLU is listed they will install a line for £10
Broadband with talk e/w is £10 without tv
Line rental £11.25, so monthly bill would be £21.25 + any calls made outside of package deal.

    IS BT Basics an option?

    Or maybe Plusnet
    * Plusnet Value: If you live in a low cost area it costs £6.49 a month. If you live outside one of these areas it costs £6.49 a month for the first three months, then £10.79 or £12.99 a month depending on where you live. See how we compare on price in your area.

Broadband with a 12 month contract: There's a £25 activation charge but we'll give you this free if you add Home Phone to your order. We'll also give you a free wireless router worth £40.
