Harrasment help

My family is being harrassed by my brother's ex wife. Shes running a dirty tricks campaign by spreading false rumours and publishing deformatory articles and sending copies of it to us and family friends.
How can we stop this without proof that its her. We are 100% certain is is her.

You could go to the police as what she is doing is a criminal offence under the Protection from Harassment Act. Give them all the info you have which points to her being the culprit and let them find the hard evidence to prove it in court - which is their job. You may find that the shock of having a PC turn up to question her is enough to stop things in their tracks.

where is she publishing these articles? you could complain to them.

keep a record of everything she does, keep all texts etc. do not react if she is provocative, you must be seen to be the wronged. retaliating would harm your case. the police take harrassment seriously these days so show how upset and frightened you all are.
  • You can also try a solicitor and send a letter informing her she will be prosecuted for harassment if she doesn't stop.

Totally agree, the texts are a great way of saving them for proof. Anything she does, keep record of.

I agree with all advice so far but could you do a little digging yourself and find out more - do any of you friends/family still have regular contact with her, such as working at same place, going to same pubs, etc who could keep an eye out for you?

First of all, the police will need to send her a letter warning her to desist from the harassment and it seems they need a lower level of proof to send these out.

This is definitely the place to start if you want to take things that far and you must be prepared to see it through if the police subsequently wish to prosecute her.

Other than that, you could see a solicitor and if necessary take injunction proceedings.

Either way, you need to keep as much evidence as you can muster.

Keep evidence!!! BUT the thing is with the Police is that they may see it as a domestic as it is between 2 people that were in a relationship. THAT is where it proves difficult for them to take it seriously. If they go and see her and it doesn't stop her then what next?? Also, she may turn around and say that YOU have been harassing her!! It starts to go around in cirlcles then :( Sorry to sound so negative but trust me I have experienced this and it DOES happen. And it involved families not just the issue between 2 people. That is why it is so vital to keep all evidence and also ask everyone involved to keep anything that they can.

Good luck and I really do hope you get it all sorted out.
