please help mcafee has detected MKRecorder

Mcafee has detected MKRecorder. I have searched google and according to comments I found it seems to be downloaded with the smartboard software I use as a teacher. I do not know how to delete it please help me.

I have quarantined the program as I could not delete it. Does it really copy all of my passwords?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Its a keylogger - so yes. It will have recorded some (maybe all) passwords

    Change all your passwords

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)

Its a false positive from your AV .
Its part of the Smart Board program .

According to the Mcafee forum .
Re: MKRecorder and smart board software I also had a similar problem and contacted smart technology folks and recieved the email that follows:
    Hello Jesse,
Thank you for contacting SMART Technologies.
I understand your computer is recognizing the SMART Notebook software file MKRecorder as an unwanted program.
This file is simply the SMART Recorder feature, this allows users to record their lessons. I would suggest adjusting the settings in the McAffee software, as this file is an integral part of the Notebook software.
If you have any further questions or concerns, or require additional information, please contact us again.
    Kind Regards,
    SMART Technologies

Would not the OPs best bet be to remove the exe file and see if the program then works .
Not work = no key logger .

Makes sense to have a key logger in a recording program i guess .

  • Thank you so much for all your replies!
I have deleted the smartboard software off my laptop and will just use it at school for now until I am sure its ok. It is a real pain changing all my passwords.

    Thanks again
