The ULTIMATE Star Wars party for a 5yr old (think BIG!!)

Hello everyone
I'm hoping to get as many weird and wonderful suggestions here so feel free to let your minds run away with you.
My cousins son has had Leukemia since he was 2 years old, to mark the end of his treatment later this year he has been given a wish by a charity. His wish is for the ultimate Star Wars party for all of his friends and family. Obviously this isn't going to just be a party with a theme (matching star wars plates and cups with a cake) it's going to be MEGA! Arriving in a Limo (or choice of transport) for starters. As much as the charity do this kind of thing on a regular basis, they are asking for suggestions to tailor it for my cousins son. Also, if we can find some thingsto add we can either pay ourselves or ask for kind donations so the charity can save some money and use it for another childs wish (makint it moneysaving for them!).
We've already found some fab themed food, plus the charity say if all the kids want a Happy Meal, or roast dinner for example that will be arranged, we're thinking of storm troopers and other characters milling around the guests, welcoming them and posing for pics. Jedi light sabre lessons by martial arts people. We've found a local company with a star wars bouncy castle. The 'name' of the theme he is wanting is a 'Star Wars Lego party'.
I myself don't really know much about the films so any suggestions would be really gratefully received. There really isnt a limit!
Thanks x

there is a new lego star wars gsme out (star wars 3 attack of the clones)
lots of ads on tv at the moment. is that why he wants this theme?
gotta get him the game (for whatever consul he has)
what about getting someone to build a huge lego model from it
maybe they could get the lego company on board?
(and then donating the bricks to the hospital or chairty)
there are lego star wars spoof videos as well which you could show on a big screen?
(thinking with no regard to budget of course...)0 -
We did a star wars party for my six year old. What works really well is to make the party a challenge - the kids have to become jedis, and go through their 'training' to become them. So for example you take normal party games and adapt them to have star wars themes (pin the lightsabre on Yoda etc). Then at the end you get a certificate saying you have become a jedi. The kids went crazy! The final game was destroying the death star, which was a pinata out in the garden (which was dark by then ) under fairy lights.
Pool noodles cut in half and with silver tape around the handles make fabulous lightsabres that everyone can have, and that have no danger of hurting anyone. You can also play games of balloon 'keepy up' with them (again, part of jedi training).
People dressed up is good, as is having photos taken with them, but knowing five year olds it won't be the limo that will impress, it will be the chance to be a real jedi themselves.0 -
I bought my 6 year old a PS2 version of Lego Star Wars two weeks ago from a car boot for 50p. I haven't seen him since! Getting in a console for a play on these games must be a must!!! (and for the adults, you get to deal with Storm Troopers having a jacuzzi in their g-strings - all lego style, of course - which would amuse the dads no end). It sounds a lovely idea - I wish the little boy well.0

In the theme of moneysaving, you could
ask Legoland if they can donate/loan some star wars lego gift sets, large made up model.
ask Macdonalds if they could donate some of the Happy Meal Star Wars toys they are currently offering in their Happy Meals so each child who attends get a complete set in their party bag.
contact the official star wars fan club for donations, dressed up greeters, and any other donations.
I think the very fact it is a charity, makes me think that if you state the charity is hosting this, but in this current climate could do with all the donations it can get, include the correspondence from the charity, so they know it is genuine, you could get a lot of help

You can make a lightsabre cake easily. I did one once!
Cover a plank of wood in silver foil.
Lay 5 swiss rolls end to end. Cut the end one so it tapers a bit.
Cover the handle in black roll out icing and add smarties for buttons.
Cover the rest in coloured roll out icing depending on who's lightsabre it is!
Easy peasy
Here I go again on my own....0 -
oh my, what a cake! Star Wars was a bit 'after our time' for the boys, and I can tell you it's not very easy to make a Thunderbirds cake! :rotfl:
You could even make mini lightsabre cakes for everyone from mini swiss rolls!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I would definitely try an appeal to Disney Studios in Florida for donations. They are opening a new version of their Star Tours 2 (Star Wars) ride on May 20th and it is to coincide with the huge Star Wars Weekend.

Knowing Disney there will be loads of new merchandising and they may just be forthcoming for a good cause in the UK especially if you can tell them you may be getting publicity, if only in a local newspaper. Good luck!0 -

Thank you for your suggestions, I am not shy and am happy to approach as many people as possible to ask for contributions
I have contacted Lego in the past, who kindly sent him a big box of lego, and very recently he was sent a box full of wonderful things from Lucas Films! They were only emailed to ask if there were any conventions going on in the UK this year, a couple of weeks later he had gifts from them.
I'm hoping that with a charity name to add to my requests I may have a better out come than previous attempts. I emailed all the large toy shop chains before christmas, as he was going into hospital to have 2 operations but sadly they all said (well the ones that bothered to reply) they have chosen charities and have to stick with them.

Thank you again! That's great.
I've just found the UK Garrison, Non-Profit Costuming Club. They ask for a 150 donation to one of their chosen charities (make a wish included) and turn up to meet & greet, pose for pics etc. You can have a whole army of storm troopers!
There is a star wars day in legoland UK soon which he is going to so may bring back a few more ideas.
Thanks for all your posts x
