Only the cost of designing a rapid updating system holds it back from common useage today, as they say, watch this space;)
OK. accept ypour point, but doesn't that depend on a rule / law change before it's acceptable?0 -
Yes it does but, the essence of this topic is which is the most accurate, speedo or sat nav, yeah??
Under constant speed satnav has it everyday. It does also under average speed controls which are becoming more common day by day, (:T:T:T)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

You are absolutely right!
Sorry, it got lost in arguments about whether you could run a vehicle without a vehicle linked speedometer.0 -
Have we agreed yet, that the speed indictor belongs to the vehicle, and is not linked to something outside the vehicle? (satellites)
During the snow this winter, I went to a deserted 30mph stretch or road, and floored the accelerator. My speedometer showed I was travelling at 50mph, but my GPS showed I was travelling at 5mph.
Was I speeding?0 -

Good illustration of a point.
What seems to be getting overlooked though, is that vehicle manufacturers / dealers cannot sell a vehicle without a speed indicator that meets the regulations.
How do they sell a car with no speed indicator, if the customer doesn't want or need a sat nav?
If a vehicle didn't have a speed indicator, what happens if the sat nav is removed from the vehicle? The vehicle no longer meets the regulations, and shouldn't be on the road.
Stop on the way to work to buy a newspaper, and the sat nav gets nicked. You effectively need to get the vehicle off the road, and can't complete your journey.
So:- I accept that sat nav may / could be more accurate on speed calculation, but it is still essential to have a speed indicator that forms part of the vehicle.
It's also needed, for occasions when the sat nav may not work due to obstructions.
Which is the point where many of the prior arguments started.0 -
I did mention built in sat nav.
BTW anyone ever have a speedo cable break? Did you all put your cars off the road till it got fixed as you should have? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

No, but you were unnecessarily wheelspinning, polishing the icy surface and probably 'Driving without reasonable consideration' (Section 3 RTA 1988)0 -

You won't have one break from now on, as they don't use them any more, all fly by wire.
I hope I'm not being boring but no one gets done for not having a working speedo, they get done for speeding.
Although it's not infalible I have a pretty good inbuilt speedo, my brain, or what's left of it,, I know when I'm speeding, if I get a ticket it will be justifiable.

But they didn't drop the speedometer because it had a built in sat nav did they?
What you do, and what the law says you should do, are often two different things. Some will obey the law, and some won't.0 -

Then again, it'll be 18 years old in august. Still going strong0
