IPOD won't sync to computer

Hi all,

I have bought an ipod from a friend to use in my classes. It charges fine, works fine but will not sync to my laptop or itunes. It charges via the USB, but i cannot get it open. I have tried on our two laptops, and it works on neither. I have also googled it, i've tried resetting it and doing everything i can find. No error codes or anything are flashing up. Can anyone help?? Getting really frustrated!!

Thank you

Try checking on device manager to see if there a conflict error or trying a different usb port.

If neither are working try completly unistalling itunes and reinstalling.

Also try Mediamonkey, it detects and syncs with iDevices too and seems more reliable about it - you do need to have iTunes installed at the same time though.

Has auto-synch been switched off in iTunes?

Do you have iTunes on both machines? iPods are designed to Sync with iTunes, so unless you have two iTunes libraries, one on each laptop, it will only ever Sync with the laptop that has iTunes installed.

Does the iTunes library definitely have content to be Synced?

What happens, with the iPod connected in the left-hand pane of iTunes? Does the iPod show up there? If it does, what happens when you click on the Sync button to manually Sync it?

If not, go to My Computer or Computer and see if the iPod is showing up as an external drive. If it isn't, then there's something wrong with the iPod itself or your USB port.

Does the iPod seem to work on its own? Does it show up menu options etc when you operate it?
