Malta - Mellieha....any tips?

:beer:Off to MAlta this year, have spoken to a few people that have been but not in great detail. Does anybody have any ideas of what the restaurants in Mellieha are like?!

  • Are you staying in the village or down on the bay?
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

What restaurants? If you mean mellieha village there isn't any, just a few local shops and a couple of bars, it is dead.Don't go to gozo thats even worse. You would be better off going to Bagiba or Silema if you want some life. It is true you either love or hate Malta, i'm afraid i am the latter.

Ronaldo you are wrong, there are restaurants both in the village and down on the bay.

loved a place called cafe at the top of the hill in Mellieha, basically its a resturant at the top of the hill lol, the hill with all the little shops on in the village, ate there a few wished we found it sooner would of ate there more!!! they serve all sort of food and very friendly. i can recommend the sizzling duck and the paella. I loved Malta , Mellieha is quiter then Silema as Silema is more for nightlife. we hired a care in malta which we also took over to Gozo to have a look around, that way we could see more in the time we had. loved the blue lagoon on comino and the cheapest trip we found was a boat the went from the bottom of the hill in Mellieha, also you have to cover up when looking around some of the churches and there are markets in different place on certain days of the weeks, which are worth a trip. hope you have a lovely time
  • Thanks for your replies! We were after a quiet and traditional holiday so i hope we get that!

  • There are 4 GREAT restaurants in Mellieha...

    Bouquet Garni, Rebekah's, Giuseppi's & The Arches.
    These are not cheap restaurants..

For pub food try The Cross Keys or Reflections. Also you have the Maritim hotel which serves great Pizza and Pasta and is a stones throw from your hotel.

    Enjoy your holiday....

We have been to Mellieha twice recently with 2 children (13 and 16) and loved Malta. Mellieha beach is wonderful and safe - there are places to get food on the beach too that are cheap. There are a few places to eat near the beach - a large pizza restaurant which was decent (sorry cant remember the name) we stayed at the |Luna Hotel just up from the beach - the food here is decent and reasonably priced too - i looked over the prices of other restaurants around here and found them to be quite pricey - especially the fish restaurant next to the Luna. Up the hill towards the villiage is the 'Halfway inn' this seemed popular and reasonable although we never ate there. In Mellieha itself we went to the 'Randi Restaurant' several times and enjoyed every meal we ate there - would reccommend it. Also try the chineese restauramt at the top of the hill - the food there was good and reasonably priced although we suprised the staff by turning up at 5.30 pm for our meal - even though they were open i dont think anyone goes in till much later.
Use buses for travel - dead cheap - reliable and fun. Go to Valleta and have a good day there - plenty to see and do. Get a good guide book before you go. Gozo is a good day out too - smaller and quieter than Malta. Take a bus to the Azure window - spectacular. Also on Malta one of my favourite places was the Dingli cliffs - remote peaceful. malta is a wonderful place - no real nightlife to speak of in Mellieha just nice to sit and watch the sunset with a decent bottle of wine and a full stomach... cant wait to go back. (off to crete this time though)

Make sure you go down to marshallokk on the south coast. Beautiful, Sunday is the massive market, but every morning is market day, it is just smaller! For a really good and inexepensive meal eat at Duncan's on the harbour, open lunchtimes or Fri/Sat/Sun evenings.
