Comparison Calculators Are Lying?

Today I ran a duel fuel comparison from this site (links to moneysupermarket.com) using my existing kwh useage & it came up with 9 'cheaper' recommendations claiming to save at least £243 p.a. but when I calculated my costs using their figures I was at least £140 better off already.
So, I surmise these comparison calculators are fixed. They must surely be illegal under advertising legislation??

Welcome to the forum.
This comes up time and again and is not true PROVIDED you enter the same kWh and use the same method of payment. If you do this you will get the same future cost.
However there are a couple of exceptions:
Firstly some old tariffs are not recognised by and they use prices for a different version. However it will still give you the correct prices for a new tariff. e.g.xxx kWh paying by DD will always list tariffs cheapest first.
Secondly if you are on a fixed/on-line/capped tariff that is ending soon, some comparison networks(energy helpline for one) will give a price taking into account that you will be switched to a more expensive tariff when the fixed price ends. e.g. If you are on Eon's on-line tariff that finishes in 2 months time, it will assume that you will be switched to Eon's standard tariff and give you a figure for 2 months at your current charges and 10 months at the Standard tariff.
If you give your tariff, annual kWh and post code we can demonstrate.0 -
Another post about comparison calculators "lying" without any evidence..
Comparison sites are regulated by consumer focus to ensure they stay accurate and calculate correctly yet there are always people that come on here saying they are incorrect "according to their calculations/spreadsheet"
Strange how its never the posters calculations that are incorrect isnt it?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!
