    Well I was not a trainee like I said a trainee would not be given on call duties.

    Recruitment is all about sales. If you didn't like the sales side of things, well... And as the poster above says, a trainee position is not restricted to those under 30 years old.

    Recruitment co's (and sales in general) are notorious for trying to eek as much out of their staff as possible. It's entirely possible they'd pile as much onto you as you'd take, trainee or not. It's a competitive environment where only the thickest skinned survive.

    I would quite happily go into recruitment again I didnt mind doing the on call, I had it over the christmas and over the new year and in the run up to it the busiest period they have ever had and with me only being there a few weeks I have to say I got every position filled through sheer hard work and determination.

    I had a problem with the fact I was promised things when I agreed to take the job and they failed to deliver when the time come!

    Oh i also wouldnt have minded the sales if I was trained properly in how to deal with it, what to say we had to offer as I mainly dealt with the driving side but they were expecting me to know who to contact and who not to contact (they had enemies) what to say and what not to say etc. It was something I was prepared to do. I dont like to sing my own praises but if I am in a job I do it bliddy well!

    One of the scenarios at our recent Equality Act 2010 covered a similar situation. Yours comes under Discrimination by association. This is direct discrimination against someone because they associate with another person who possesses a protected characteristic.

    what happes if you win a tribunal in this situation, can you take an employer to tribunal over discrimination by assosciation even if you have just worked there for 4 months?

    Yes discrimination has no time limit to qualify. The reward is unlimited! Breach of contract would have a basic and future loses award up to the point of the hearing and then there could be claims for discrimination (unlimited) and anything else you want to add in such as hurt feelings etc which again are upto the ET judge!

    Have a look at your home insurance and see if you have any insurance on employment matters. If not go speak to a no win no fee solicitor who deals with employment law.

    Cant believe I am giving that advice because I hate the no win no fee people but it sounds like you do have a case. In my opinion of course.

    The OP was not refused time off, just that she had to take it as leave. With only 4 months service and this one incident it would be difficult to make a case that treatment was discriminatory.

    It is usual for base salaries in recruitment to be low, particularly for resourcer jobs and this sounds like a resourcing job. Recruitment consultants make their money in commission and bonuses, usually worked out on targets which are based on a multiplier of salaries. This means that good consultants prefer low base salaries, because it means targets are lower, and therefore bonus easier to earn. I know one consultant who took home £120k in one year, despite a base salary of 19k.

    It's a tough tough industry, and as Sammyantha says, it's a sales job.

    Thank you for the help, makes me feel so much better knowing that it wasnt just me, I know there are 2 sides to every story, but I have told you exactly how it is, I never had to work my daughter receives DLA and I was never forced by the job centre to go out and seek employment, I chose to because I wanted too. I worked so damn hard because I really liked the job and in the end I had to do what was right for my daughter, no matter how much I enjoyed what I was doing as what I was promised was not delivered.
