Should I give them a deadline

We are in a situation where we had a buyer pull out so we lowered the price in order to get another buyer fast so we could still go ahead with our purchase property.
The buyer assured us he could complete quickly. However his solicitor seems to be useless. Looking on their website they seem to be a local company who promise fast service and good communication. However the buyer, my solicitor and the estate agents have only ever been able to speak to the secretary who gives a standard answer 'we are in the process of approving contracts and it will be weeks rather than months''.
They have had the contract docs for over 2 weeks and have not yet even raised enquiries with my solicitor!!!-what needs to be done really for a cash buyer, not getting searches and buying for 65% of market value???
I now feel like giving them a deadline as we have just applied for consent to let on our current mortgage and our mortgage advisor has all the paperwork ready to apply for BTL remortgage if we can't get consent to let.
The only thing stopping me doing this is the fact we exchanged mobile numbers with the buyer and he has been good about keeping us updated (although he doesn't want to hurry his solicitor up too much incase it actually makes him go slower!!). I think if it was a buyer who we hadn't had personal contact with, I would feel more comfortable getting firm with them and setting a deadline!
What do you guys think-would you set a deadline for say exchange by next Friday or we pull out and in the mean time get the application in for a BTL remortgage?

I'd call the buyer and tell him what a crap job his solicitor was doing. Maybe he's unaware?0

He's coming round tomorrow to view so he can measure up for new kitchen units so I will let him know! I did call him in the week but it was a really bad line so couldn't really get the point across!0
