Change of registered car owner

Hia

I've been given a car by a family member. I'm the new registered keeper, but i want to be the registered owner.
With the car being gifted to me how do i go about this as there is no bill of sale in my name.

Its creating problems with getting my insurance online

Cheers

I do not think that there is anything formally that proves car ownership.

Apparently the owner is the last person with a bill of sale?

Bill of sale, letter from your relative saying you are the owner.

    That should do it.

She's given you it, your the owner, if you're really worried, give her a £1 (or 1p) and get a receipt

Exactly, why are you having trouble with insurance quotes, what question are they asking.

IIRC, some of the forms ask 'are you the legal owner'

I think that is what is confusing the OP

she/he has looked at he V5 and seen it just says 'keeper'

There's defintely no such thing as a registered owner (just the registered keeper). If you've been given it then its yours. No different to if they gave you anything else.
