in Techie Stuff
I am not very clued up with tech stuff, so bear with me! I have searched for info, but do not understand. Today I cannot get my laptop to use the internet, the message comes up as per title. The wireless lights come up correctly and I have also used the ethernet connection. I phoned bt. First they said it was my firewall, I disconnected that, no joy. I phoned again and now they say it is the browser and gave me the helpline number for HP, which is not open over the week-end. Any suggestions as I still do not understand what is wrong and am at college and have essential work to do. I do not want to wait til Monday and find that it is another issues. All suggestions welcome

May be be many things. If it's happen suddenly, may be some kind of malware like this:

You should be able to start it up in Safe Mode with Networking. You'll have to restart the computer, and keep pressing F8 until you see the option.
Once the computer has loaded into Windows, download and run the following:
1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (install, UPDATE, and run a quick scan, post the log to here please)

2. Spybot: Search and Destroy (install it without SDhelper or teatimer, UPDATE, run Immunisations, then run a scan)

3. HiJackThis (scan and save a log, copy and paste it here)

Ended up having to go back to factory settings, backed my stuff up ok, but have lost all my added programmes, word office. I got this on line and don't have a disk, (lesson learnt!), when I try to re-activate get message saying have used up my usages? Like I say I am an idiot when it comes to IT. As it is the week-end I can't seem to get any response (people deserve a day off). I am getting more harrassed by the second as I have college work :eek:0
