Santander

I applied for a current account in January, after over 2 months of sending ID document after ID document I finally got it opened last week and got all my cards and internet banking details through. I changed my bank details with my employer and all closed down my previous account. Big mistake!
I went shopping today, my new card was declined. I popped into the bank to investigate, they said "oh sorry it seems you account has been cancelled". I asked why, she said she "are you sure it was opened?". I said "yes thats why I have a card and cheque book etc" I said my salary had been paid in, she said there is nothing she could do. I spoke to a manager, he said "it seems you account was cancelled, are you sure you haven't closed it?".
Then he said he would make some calls, he got back to me and said "yes sir you account has been cancelled". He even had the cheek to ask if I would like to make a new application.
Nobody could give me an explanation, or explain where my money was. they just basically said there is nothing they could do because the account was closed.
Anyone got any idea where my wages will go if they were sent to a closed account?
I knew I should have avoided them after my experiences with Cahoot.

The funds should bounce back to your Employer, assuming the account is closed, though with Santander anything is possible.
What possessed you to go anywhere near Santander after being a member here for 3 years!?

good question! i've got a horrible credit rating and they were the only ones who would accept me. I had a cahoot account but I need a bank I can deposit over the counter so I took a chance on Santander.
  • their head office (similar to AVU) must have closed it
talk to the customer service (gets through to UK most times - 24/7) - 0800 587 0017 option 2 - not those offshore ones :P

I agree Santander have quite possibly the worst customer service you can imagine but you have to give it to them they have VERY competitive products.
Personally i would be one of those people that would take the higher interest rate over good customer service

Their products are competetive for a reason. You only have to look at all the Santander threads on MSE to see their headline interest rates and incentives are absolutely not worth the aggravation. Its not just their customer service thats abysmal, they have very bizarre security processes and their computer systems are shoddy at best.
Debt free and staying that way!

Exactly, take away the attractive rates and as a bank they have nothing going for them...

Thats what i'm saying. I'm willing to put up with their shoddy service in order to get the better rates.
Things have went wrong- anytime i open up a new a/c with them online they NEVER add it correctly to my online portfolio- they always seem to create a new customer profile and then i have to go through a complete chain of events to trya and get them to fix it.
I've had to deal with their complaint team at least twice in the last year because of this- but i would still open another Santander product if it had the best rate

I used to think exactly that but rapidly changed my mind after experiencing Santander "customer service".
