I know that you could use your pc as a fax with dial up, can you do it with broadband? I don't have a dial-up modem in my pc.
I need to use a fax in my new job, I have a Samsung fax machine, but it receives faxes halfway down the page so it ends up on 2 pages, which is no good for business purposes.
I know there is a service called efax http://www.efax.com/en/efax/twa/productOverview?VID=40327&OFFERCODE=EFAX_PLUS_GBP_750_30DAY_NOACT¤cy=GBP

You can't send/receive fax's unless you have a dial-up modem fitted in your PC. There are various fax services on the web that you can use but it sounds like you would be better off either fixing your fax machine or getting another one for business use. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

You would have to use an email to fax service or something. Faxes travel over the telephone audio part of the data network. Whereas ADSL is essentially completely separate."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I had reason to send a fax a few weeks ago, so dug out my old dial up modem and connected to the PC.
It worked fine, even though I have broadband.
I'm sure you could pick up a second hand dial up modem for next to nothing these days.0 -

Don't you have to have your PC switched on to receive the fax, though? I've used fax software in an office, where they had a server, so faxes could be collected on the server and downloaded to the individual PCs, but not sure if that can be done with a stand-alone PC?0

Yes, that's true.
It can be a drawback, but not many people or businesses use fax these days. If you don't use the fax very often then it may be better to spend a fiver on a fax modem than buy a fax machine.0
