No, it's known as recycling, Nowhere does it say that you can't use a voucher to buy more dtd items!

Yes, that is what I told the cashier when she pulled me about it.

Hi again, went to T earlier and got more DTD bits including OLAY WAKE UP WONDER (£9.52 T £5.00 A), which has a TMF also, so you can send it away for a refund if it doesn't give good results. :j

I think this is a very strong argument raised by Figlesquidge which i do not think anyone has raised previously.

Even worse would be if Tesco treated any items on such a "circulated list" as excluded from the offer.

Hmm, good point. But to do that, they would have to list the items in the T&Cs, otherwise they couldn't exclude them!! :rotfl:

I don't understand why some people are getting so defensive about lurkers. Lurkers are just as much a part of MSE as regular posters. I'm sure many regular posters lurked before they began posting.
Also, what about people who don't feel confident about posting or who feel like they don't have anything new or valuable to add to the discussion? Does that make them any less of an MSE'er? Most of the finds here seem to have been around from day one and have been repeated throughout. Are lurkers deemed to be less worthy for not having made a "contribution" compared to someone who has signed up as a poster to ask for advice on what they should buy? To put this into perspective, we're approaching 10,000 posts on this thread but the number of finds on the spreadsheet come in at fewer than 400.

I think this thread is more of a giveaway than any spread sheet would ever be. You only need to look at the number of posts asking, "What spreadsheet ?" or "where is it / link please?" to see that. I agree with whoever made the comment that the thing most likely to get the promotion pulled is the explicit chat about breaking the T&Cs or trying to find ways around the T&Cs.

I've also read a number posts where people have said that they tried to get family members or friends to try DTD, but they failed show any interest or were sceptical and didn't believe it would work for them. I think this is a common scenario. So if you think of it this way: if people aren't interested when the promotion has been fully explained to them, whereby they're effectively being told that they can get free shopping with an initial outlay, why would that suddenly change with the introduction of a spreadsheet (full of items that they probably have no interest in buying)? I doubt that the spreadsheet is being passed around in the manner that some posters think it may be. Even if it was, what harm would that do?

As I see it, wasn't the spreadsheet first created to make it easier for newbies in the first place? Because they all came here with the same questions about what items they should look out for, which was clogging up the thread.

Like other posters have said, Tesco are aware of their prices and they are aware of how quickly their stock is moving. I expect they get hourly feedback on how much money they're making and what impact this promotion is having on their profit margins. If this promotion was making a dent in their profits they would have cracked down with gusto on their T&Cs - probably taking a line similar to ASDA's (10% plus difference). They probably also know, judging by some of the posts here, that those who are "making full use" of this promotion have abandoned or partially abandoned the supermarkets where they usually shopped. 1 - nil to Tesco.

The deal is also not as lucrative as people believe it to be, when you do a full compare with the real price that you would have paid if you'd bought the product at its cheapest in ASDA. People talk about getting £100 of free stuff, but really it's more likely to be a maximum of £50 (and even at £50, ASDA would still have made a profit). Then you have the extra spend on top of each voucher, which all adds up.

You also have to consider whether you had a need or use for all the stuff that you would never have bought were it not for the DTD. People can argue over the pancake mix and whether it should be reserved for an MSE'er, because "they worked for it", but Tesco are probably relieved that this out of season product is being cleared from their shelves and they don't have to pay for someone to take it away for disposal (well ... ;)).

I don't think Tesco is losing out because of this promotion and I don't think the spreadsheet will cause a surge in the number of people DTDing. I expect only a small hardcore are religiously seeking out items on the spreadsheet and that most people are just adapting their normal shops or swapping something they would usually buy for a similar DTD item. You have to admit there is a very limited selection to choose from.

I don't think this thread is representative of what is happening in reality. People here are probably being egged on by other peoples' stories of what they're getting; Joe Bloggs down the road, who heard some news about a "spreadsheet" from his milkman, probably feels more nervous about using his voucher and paying an initially high price for something he knows he can get cheaper elsewhere.

MSE and other sites like it have been built around the principle of sharing finds, why should it end here?

Just my two pence worth (expecting DTD of 4p back) ;)

Thank you, what a great post. :A And I for one am happy to take the Betty Crocker mix off his hands for £1.29 a tub! :D:D:D:D:D:D
