I ahve forgotten the password to a password protected Word file I created about a year ago.
Is there anyway I can open the file or retrieve the password?

The "options" item is shaded (disabled)
to clarify: I am trying to open a file that is already protected with a password0 -
There are numerous utilities out there which claim to be able to find the password:

Word 2003 password protection can't be 'cracked' but you can use one of the utility programs to try all possible passwords. As that will take forever, you should (hopefully) know what sort of password you used (i.e. all letters) and limit the search to just the alphabet. Of course, if you used a proper word, a dictionary attack will solve the password in a few seconds!0

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0
